Pirtlegimp Promotions was conceived in Fall 2006 and launched in January 2007 to fill a small niche in the world of promotions. We provide our service to hand-picked clients free of charge; the only charge incurred by labels or artists is for postage. The artists whose releases are sent out might loosely fall under the ambiguous category of ‘experimental’ – though that doesn’t mean that every disc we service is challenging listening.

I decided to start this service as a way to target-market special releases to a select group of stations that have a high standard of programming, as we have at my station (I am the music director at WTUL New Orleans). My servicing list includes only 30 stations, and I am certain that these 30 are among the cream of the crop of college and community radio.

To our stations, you can expect a mailing about every 4 to 6 weeks or so. The discs will be reviewed briefly with recommended tracks and will be screened thoroughly for profanity and obscenity. The reviews will also be located on the website under the ‘current projects’ section. We’ll also send out a weekly email reminder of our current projects.
